China’s maritime sector thrived in 2024, with 12 major ports handling 276.4M TEUs, a 7.6% year-over-year increase.
The top 5 busiest ports were:
1. Shanghai – 43.25M TEUs (+7.6%), expanding LCL trade and green efforts
2. Ningbo-Zhoushan – 32.83M TEUs (+8.8%), advancing shore power use.
3. Shenzhen – 27.66M TEUs (+14.9%), focusing on decarbonisation
4. Qingdao – 25.76M TEUs (+7.8%), growth slowed from 2023.
5. Guangzhou – 21.75M TEUs (+4.7%), partnered with Piraeus for green initiatives.
